Choose sea or air freight by comparing the whole shipment journey: readiness at origin, carrier acceptance, transport, Egyptian customs preparation and inland delivery. Air may suit urgent, smaller consignments; sea may suit larger volumes. Neither choice removes import requirements, and the fastest scheduled transport is not automatically the fastest delivery to your site.
What deadline are you actually trying to meet?
Start with the date the goods must be available at the factory or warehouse. Work backwards through receiving arrangements, clearance preparation, arrival handling and the available departure. Separate a production deadline from a preferred arrival date. Ask the provider to explain what its schedule covers and where uncertainty remains. A carrier transit estimate should not be presented as a guaranteed date for customs release.
How do size and packing affect the choice?
Send packed dimensions and weights, not just product quantities. Air bookings depend on aircraft and route acceptance, and the charging basis may reflect volume as well as weight. Sea options include full containers, consolidation and other cargo arrangements. Large or unusual packages need acceptance checks before quoting. If comparing full-container and consolidated sea shipping, use the existing FCL versus LCL guide for that separate decision.
What costs belong in the comparison?
Compare origin charges, main transport, arrival handling, customs service, applicable duties and taxes, inland transport and any separately agreed services. Ask how each provider handles chargeable weight, minimum charges and quote validity. Keep allowances or estimates distinguishable from confirmed charges. Different freight rates are only comparable when the cargo data, route and included services match.
Can part of the shipment move by air?
A split can be considered when a small set of parts is urgently needed and the remaining cargo can travel by sea. It requires its own document and shipment plan; do not assume one file covers both movements. Explain which items are operationally critical and which can wait. Compare the extra coordination and destination charges with the benefit of receiving the urgent items sooner.
What needs to happen before departure?
The Egyptian importer and foreign supplier need to coordinate the applicable ACI information and document handover. Air cargo leaves less time between booking and movement, so draft documents should be ready early. Product approvals, importer readiness and carrier acceptance still need review for either mode. A change from sea to air should trigger a review of the file and booking requirements rather than simply changing the transport label.
How does Al-Rouby help compare routes?
Our team coordinates freight planning with customs readiness and the receiving destination. Share urgency, origin, dimensions, weights, cargo description and document status. We can then discuss feasible shipment arrangements and the information needed for quotations. The aim is to compare actual execution paths, with clear responsibility for the carrier, documents and inland handover.

Frequently asked questions
Only if the cargo is accepted, the route is available and the document and receiving arrangements support the deadline. Compare the complete journey.
Carrier acceptance depends on the actual packed size, weight and handling requirements. Do not assume an aircraft can accept the package from its product name alone.
Compare the full shipment scope and cargo data. Freight rates alone do not capture destination handling, inland delivery or other agreed services.
